- Step 4: The special stage with grand seats is arranged for the bride and groom, like a marriage stage. The bride and groom are surrounded by their families, relatives, and friends. They start the function with god mantras and ritual songs.
- Step 5: The women of the families and relatives apply turmeric paste to the bride and groom’s hands, legs, arms, and faces. According to scientific reasoning, turmeric has the power to kill bacteria and purify the body. In this ritual, they believe all the bad things will be cleared up for the new couples.
- Step 6: They then all wish the bride and groom a happy new life.

Kumkum ceremony (Kunguma vizha):
- Step 7: Now, after the nalangu function, the kumkum ceremony starts with some fun, love, and games.
- Step 8: In the kumkum ceremony (Kunguma vizha), the bride and groom are seated in front together.
- Step 9: The ritual materials are placed between the couples. Some of the ritual materials are turmeric, sandal powder, kumkum powder, etc. All materials are mixed like a thick paste.
- Step 10: Now, the families of the couples are instructed to apply the mixture paste to each other’s foreheads. It represents the mutual understanding and love that will be expressed between each other.
- Step 11: The couple’s friends, family, and relatives sing traditional ritual songs to make their faces glow.

The Nalangu celebration is a glowy affair with lots of lights, happiness, and emotions shared by each other. In this celebration, the women are singing “nalangu paatu”, the traditional song for the function.
